Status update on replacing openssl-sys with rustls?

After 3 days of fruitless effort to get the stupid openssl-sys to work with rust (flutter-rust-bridge) I just had to throw in the towel and use the pre-compiled package. From what I understand so far rustls doesn't work with https or?
