TMDb Poster Image Artifacts and Black Lines When Using Non-Original Resolutions in Kodi
Bug report
Describe the bug
Here is a clear and concise description of what the problem is:
Plugins that use the TMDb poster quality setting have a problem with image caching in Kodi. For example, the original w500 TMDb image is 500 × 750 and has no black line. Kodi’s cached image is 480 × 720 and contains black line along the right edge. Tested on both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Expected Behavior
Here is a clear and concise description of what was expected to happen:
The expected behavior is for the image to be displayed without any artifacts.
Actual Behavior
The current behavior is that image artifacts appear when the image is not displayed at its original resolution, and this is most noticeable at the w500 resolution.
Possible Fix
I really don't know what a possible solution could be.
To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
- In the TMDb Helper settings, set "TMDb artwork quality" to Medium.
- Delete:
AppData\Roaming\Kodi\\\userdata\ThumbnailsAppData\Roaming\Kodi\\\userdata\Database\Textures13.dbThis is necessary because if the image has already been cached, it will be displayed correctly. - Open any TMDb Helper list and you will notice that a black line appears on the right side of many posters.

Here is some additional context or explanation that might help:
I started working on updating the skin for the new version of Kodi, but then I noticed this issue. It makes the work much more difficult and also looks really bad, especially in my skin (Bingie), which has a black background and white borders around the posters, making it look as if the poster has been cut off. There is also an open thread about this on the Kodi forum, which contains more information about the issue. https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=388627
