What happened?
When attempting to install Ubuntu 26.04 LTS using Ventoy 1.1.12, the installer fails during the Disk Setup phase. Specifically, once the process reaches the screen asking "How do you want to install Ubuntu?", no installation options are visible (e.g., "Install alongside," "Erase disk," or "Something else"). The selection area is completely blank, making it impossible to proceed with the installation.
This appears to be a compatibility issue between Ventoy’s ISO mapping and the new Ubuntu "Snap" installer.
- The issue persists even on the latest Ventoy version (1.1.12).
- Rufus (in DD mode) and balenaEtcher do not have this problem; they correctly show the disk partitions and installation options.
The problem does not seem to affect ubuntu 26.04.
Reproduction Steps (to reflect the Reddit findings):
- Flash a USB drive with Ventoy 1.1.12.
- Copy the official Ubuntu 26.04 LTS ISO to the drive.
- Boot the ISO in UEFI mode.
- Proceed through the initial language and keyboard settings.
- Reach the "Disk Setup" / "Installation Type" screen.
Observed Result: The screen is empty/blank with no drive options or installation methods listed.
Expected Result: The installer should detect the system drives and offer options to erase the disk or install alongside an existing OS (as it does when using Rufus).
