Symptoms

The game experiences brief but severe recurring freezes during gameplay and in-game cinematics. Each freeze lasts less than half a second and occurs every few seconds, making normal movement and combat difficult and the game effectively unplayable.

The issue also occurs with the latest official Proton Experimental build. Custom Proton builds were tested as well and exhibited the same behavior.

Reproduction

1. Select Proton Experimental in the game's Steam compatibility settings.
2. Set the launch options to PROTON_LOG=1 %command%.
3. Launch the game.
4. Start or load a game.
5. Play normally or watch an in-game cinematic.
6. Observe brief freezes recurring every few seconds.
