What's wrong?

Color gamut switching in G-Helper does not consistently work on my ASUS TX Gaming FX608LMG.

When the issue occurs, Native, Display P3, and sRGB look identical, including on the desktop wallpaper. Only DCI-P3 produces a visible change. Selecting sRGB still changes the default profile in Windows Color Management to ASUS_sRGB.

The most important observation is:

  • After installing and using Armoury Crate, gamut switching worked in Armoury Crate, and then also worked in G-Helper.
  • After uninstalling Armoury Crate, gamut switching in G-Helper stopped working again.

Behavior also differs depending on the GPU mode:

  • Standard + Optimus: visual presets and color temperature adjustments work, but Native, Display P3, and sRGB look identical; only DCI-P3 visibly changes the image.
  • G-Helper Ultimate mode: Native, Display P3, and sRGB also look identical; only DCI-P3 visibly changes the image.
  • Standard + NVIDIA Control Panel's "NVIDIA GPU only": visual preset, color temperature, and gamut adjustments have no visible effect.

Could there be a component or initialization step provided by Armoury Crate that is needed for gamut switching on this model?

How to reproduce the bug?

This is the sequence I observed on my laptop:

  1. With Armoury Crate uninstalled, launch G-Helper 0.283.0.
  2. Use Standard mode with Optimus, with HDR and Windows automatic color management disabled.
  3. Set the visual preset to Default and the color temperature to Neutral.
  4. Switch between Native, sRGB, Display P3, and DCI-P3.
  5. Native, sRGB, and Display P3 appear identical. Only DCI-P3 produces a visible change.
  6. Install Armoury Crate and use its GameVisual controls. Gamut switching works there.
  7. Open G-Helper again. Gamut switching now also works in G-Helper.
  8. Uninstall Armoury Crate. The original issue returns in G-Helper.

I have not identified which component or setting changes during the Armoury Crate installation/uninstallation.

Device and Model

ASUS TX Gaming FX608LMG, Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, RTX 5060 Laptop GPU, BOE NE160QD2-MZ2 / BOE381E internal display

Additional information.

System details:

  • ASUS System Control Interface v3: 3.1.70.0
  • Intel graphics driver: 32.0.101.8826
  • Internal display: BOE NE160QD2-MZ2 / BOE381E, 240 Hz

Troubleshooting already attempted:

  • HDR and Windows automatic color management are disabled.
  • Toggling "Use my settings for this device" in Windows Color Management did not resolve the issue.
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling ASUS System Control Interface v3 did not resolve the issue.
  • Temporarily removing C:\ProgramData\ASUS\GameVisual caused the color controls to disappear, with no profile download prompt. I restored the original folder.

The log includes "LutSmooth8Bit() failed!!!", "ICM wtpt is not valid", and "MHC2 Tag not exist, add new tag!" messages. Calls also report "CCTAPI_IGCL return: 0" or "CCTAPI_NV return: 0". I do not know whether these messages are related to the cause.

I can provide the GameVisual color profiles and additional logs or test a diagnostic build if needed.
