VPN/Proxy (Geph, Whale, ZhVPN, KuaiFan, ...) not working inside sandbox – browser IP address remains unchanged

Describe what you noticed and did

Environment:

Windows version: [e.g., Windows 10 22H2 / Windows 11]

Sandboxie Plus version: [e.g., v1.18.x, latest]

VPN/Proxy software: Geph, Whale, ZhVPN, KuaiFan (and others)

Steps to reproduce:

Set up a VPN or proxy client (e.g., Geph, Whale, ZhVPN, KuaiFan) on the host system and ensure it is working correctly (browser IP shows the proxy IP outside the sandbox).

Create a sandbox in Sandboxie.

Launch a browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.) inside the sandbox.

Visit an IP detection service like ip138.com or https://api.ipify.org/ to check the public IP address.

Observed behavior: The browser inside the sandbox still shows the host's real public IP address, not the VPN/proxy IP. The proxy/VPN does not seem to take effect for sandboxed applications, even though it works perfectly outside the sandbox.

The sandboxed browser should route its traffic through the VPN/proxy and display the proxy IP address, just like the host browser does.

Additional notes:

I have tried the workaround mentioned in some threads regarding template.ini, but it did not help. This issue persists even after modifying Templates.ini.

The problem seems to have started after updating to newer Sandboxie versions. Some users have reported that v1.14.1 / 5.69.1 was the last version where this worked reliably.

I am using the latest version of Sandboxie, but the issue remains.

This occurs with multiple different VPN/proxy clients (Geph, Whale, ZhVPN, KuaiFan), not just one specific tool.

I also tried the workaround mentioned in Issue #4197 regarding EncryptedPW parameter – changing EncryptedPW= to Password= did not resolve the issue.

I suspect this might be related to how Sandboxie handles network redirection in newer versions, possibly due to IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack handling or changes in the proxy implementation.

Question / Request: Is there a way to make VPN/proxy work inside the sandbox in the latest Sandboxie versions? Has the proxy redirection mechanism changed in recent updates? Is there a configuration workaround or a fix planned for this issue? This is a critical feature for users who rely on sandboxing for privacy and security.
