Podman Desktop no longer updates, on closing states "unable to find the main window"

Bug description

After running for some time (usually more than 24h), suddenly activities are no longer updated (e.g. new containers started on the local/remote machine do not show up, stopped/removed containers simply "hang around"). When closing the main window, I get one or more popups stating a JavaScript error with "unable to find the main window". A freshly started Podman Desktop then behaves normally again – until the situation repeats.

I see this issue for about 2 years now, we shortly spoke about it at FOSDEM 2025 where I was assured this were fixed for the next release (must have been a misunderstanding of my "vocal bug description" then, and a different bug referred to).

Steps to reproduce

For me, it's regular:

• Start Podman Desktop
• Have it run fine for hours or even days
• Suddenly it stops updating
• Close the main window, and in 90% of the cases, above described popup opens (some days multiple of them in a row, i.e. another one when you close the first; up to 3 of them I observed)
