can I set the commit nicknames ?

I would need a way to use names of my own instead of C1 C2 ... it would be nice to be able to set it with git commit -mA or similar

Limitations on the name's length - to e.g. 2 characters, like now - would be perfectly fine, but I plan on illustrating some already written material, which uses other ids
