Real-time VS Code integration with Overleaf?

I wanted to ask about the possibility of some sort of real-time collaboration support with VS Code. There’s already an extension called Overleaf Workshop, but to be honest, it doesn’t work very well. It uses Overleaf’s Git-based sync (I assume via HTTP requests), and this makes things go out of sync frequently. People working in the browser sometimes get kicked out with an “out of sync” error.

What I’d love to see is some kind of API (or official support) for real-time collaboration with Overleaf through an external editor like VS Code — being able to work in VS Code while others use the browser and have everyone stay in sync live.

I get that Overleaf’s strength is the web-based platform, so something like this might feel like it’s drawing users away. But it’s also just nice having all your stuff on Overleaf. A lot of people use Overleaf, and for those who don’t — who prefer working in VS Code, Vim, Emacs, etc. — it would be great if they could still connect and collaborate in real time with Overleaf users. That way, they can keep their workflows and keybindings while still contributing live to shared documents.
