Proposal: lint SKILL.md files in CI with skillmd-lint (workflow ready)

Author: Mine-FNLCreated Sep 20, 2026Updated Sep 20, 2026

Proposal

Add a CI job that lints skills/.curated/**/SKILL.md with skillmd-lint and surfaces findings as inline annotations on pull requests.

Note: pull requests are disabled in this repository, so I couldn't open the diff directly. The ready-to-merge workflow is on a fork branch:

https://github.com/Mine-FNL/openai-skills/blob/ci/skillmd-lint/.github/workflows/skillmd-lint.yml

Current state of the catalog

Linting all 39 curated skills with skillmd-lint v1.4.0:

  • 0 errors
  • 131 warnings (mostly missing ## Pitfalls to avoid / negative triggers in descriptions)

So the gate would be green on main today: it blocks future errors and surfaces warnings without failing the job (--strict can be added once the warning baseline is worked down).

Why

The same 33-rule spec now applies to skills shipped to Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor; running the same gate in each vendor catalog gives authors one mental model. skillmd-lint is MIT, offline, pure Python, with one transitive dependency (PyYAML), and installs from its GitHub release wheel.

Offer

If pull requests are re-enabled (or you'd prefer a different channel), I can resubmit this as a normal PR, widen the glob to skills/.system/, or drop the job entirely — your call.
