What version of the ChatGPT / Codex App are you using? 26.924.50649 Installed from the official OpenAI Debian repository: https://persistent.oaistatic.com/codex-app-prod/linux/deb What subscription do you have? Paid ChatGPT account What platform is your computer? Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS COSMIC / Wayland Kernel 7.0.11 amd64 / x86_64 What issue are you seeing? The Linux desktop app successfully downloads / displays cloud ChatGPT conversation history, but ordinary Chat conversations created in the Linux app never sync back to ChatGPT Web or iOS. Sync is consistently one-way:

  • Web/iOS → Linux: works
  • Linux → Web/iOS: does not work A Linux-created conversation appears normally in the Linux app’s Recents list, messages send successfully, responses arrive, and there is no offline / failed-to-send / sync warning. However, that conversation never appears on chatgpt.com or in the iOS app. Reproduction steps
  1. Sign into the Linux desktop app and ChatGPT Web/iOS using the same account and workspace.
  2. Create a normal Chat conversation in the Linux app.
  3. Send a message and receive a response.
  4. Confirm the conversation appears in Linux Recents.
  5. Check ChatGPT Web and iOS.
  6. The Linux-created conversation does not appear.
  7. Create a conversation on Web or iOS.
  8. That conversation does appear in the Linux app. Troubleshooting already performed
  • Completely quit and restarted the Linux app.
  • Verified these are ordinary Chat conversations, not Temporary Chat or Work sessions.
  • Removed the existing ~/.config/Codex profile and allowed the application to create a fresh profile.
  • Signed in again with fresh authentication.
  • Confirmed existing cloud history repopulated successfully.
  • Reproduced the Linux → cloud sync failure with the fresh profile.
  • Tested explicitly under XWayland: chatgpt --ozone-platform=x11 Result: new Linux chat did not sync.
  • Tested explicitly under native Wayland: chatgpt --ozone-platform=wayland Result: new Linux chat did not sync.
  • Verified CODEX_HOME is unset.
  • ~/.codex/sessions and ~/.codex/archived_sessions contained no session transcript files.
  • The in-app / feedback flow did not provide a session ID.
  • Verified package is current: Installed: 26.924.50649 Candidate: 26.924.50649
  • No proxy environment variables are set: http_proxy, https_proxy, all_proxy, and no_proxy are unset.
  • https://ws.chatgpt.com is reachable.
  • A generic WebSocket upgrade attempt to wss://ws.chatgpt.com/ reaches the server and returns HTTP 404, as expected for an unauthenticated/non-public root WebSocket endpoint.
  • No relevant entries were emitted by: journalctl --user -S "10 minutes ago" | grep -i -E "chatgpt|codex|openai" or sudo journalctl -S "10 minutes ago" | grep -i -E "chatgpt|codex|openai" Control test ChatGPT Web in Brave on the same Pop!_OS machine and same network syncs normally to iOS. Likewise, conversations created on iOS sync normally to both Web and the Linux desktop app. This appears isolated specifically to Linux-desktop-created Chat conversations not being committed to cloud history. Additional notes Pop!_OS is not currently listed as an officially supported Linux distribution, although it is Ubuntu 24.04 based. OpenAI Support directed me to file this issue here after the normal diagnostic steps did not expose a session ID, local session transcript, journal error, or obvious network problem. I can provide additional targeted diagnostics if needed.
