Android app: threads assigned to Sections are inaccessible; Sections only partially work in Remote
What platform/client are you using?
- ChatGPT Android app: 1.2026.265
- Android 17
- Device: Pixel 10
- ChatGPT Plus
- Codex Desktop on Windows is the primary client where Sections are managed
What issue are you seeing?
Threads assigned to custom Sections in Codex Desktop are not accessible from the normal Android app because the normal Android interface does not show those Sections at all.
This is the primary issue.
There is also a secondary problem in Remote inside the Android app:
- custom Sections are visible there,
- but their contents are incomplete,
- i.e. some threads assigned to a Section on desktop appear in Android Remote, while other threads assigned to the same Section do not.
Desktop itself shows the Sections and their thread membership normally.
Expected behavior
The Android app should expose the same custom Sections and the threads assigned to them, without requiring the user to enter Remote.
Threads should not effectively disappear from normal Android access merely because they were organized into a Section on desktop.
Remote should also show complete Section membership.
Actual behavior
Normal Android app
- Custom Sections are not visible.
- Threads assigned to those Sections are therefore not accessible through the normal Android thread UI.
Android Remote
- The Sections themselves are visible.
- Thread membership is incomplete: some Section threads appear, others are missing.
Desktop
- Sections and their assigned threads are visible and usable as expected.
Steps to reproduce
- In Codex Desktop, start with a thread that is accessible on Android.
- Move that thread into a custom Section.
- Open the normal ChatGPT/Codex Android interface.
- Observe that the Section is not exposed there and the thread is no longer normally accessible.
- Open Remote in the Android app.
- Observe that the Section may appear there, but not all threads assigned to it are necessarily listed.
- Compare against desktop, where the Section and its full membership are visible.
Why this matters
Sections are intended to organize active Codex threads. If Android does not expose them, organizing threads on desktop can make those threads effectively unavailable on mobile unless Remote happens to surface them.
Remote is not an adequate substitute for normal Android access, and even there the Section membership currently appears incomplete.
Related but distinct issues
There are existing reports about missing/incomplete thread discovery in Android Remote, but this report is primarily about normal Android access to threads placed in custom Sections.
The Remote incompleteness may be related to those thread-discovery issues, but it is secondary to the fact that custom Sections are absent from the normal Android UI.
