Summary

The Node.js nightly leg of the npm 12.1.0 release integration failed before Node.js could be built or npm could be tested.

Job: Release Integration / publish (nightly) / build nodejs@nightly [email protected]

Failure

The workflow selected Node.js nightly v27.0.0-nightly20260922dd9f4dac32 and attempted to extract:

https://nodejs.org/download/nightly/v27.0.0-nightly20260922dd9f4dac32/node-v27.0.0-nightly20260922dd9f4dac32.tar.gz

The downloaded response was not a gzip archive:

gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
Process completed with exit code 2

The failure occurs in .github/workflows/node-integration.yml while streaming the nightly source response directly into tar:

bash
curl -sSL \"$nodeUrl\" | tar xz -C \"$sourceDir\" --strip=1

This appears consistent with the newest nightly being listed in index.json before its source archive was available, or the archive request otherwise returning a non-success response. Because curl does not fail on HTTP error responses here, the response body is passed to tar, which reports only that it is not gzip data.

Node.js compilation, npm injection, and the Node.js and npm test jobs never ran, so this failure does not indicate an npm 12.1.0 compatibility problem with Node.js nightly.
