[<com.google.android.youtube>] <YouTube playback fails after approximately 1 minute on Huawei device>

Author: RayChanCantonCreated Oct 1, 2026Updated Oct 1, 2026

Affected app Name: YouTube Package id: com.google.android.youtube

Describe the bug Today, YouTube suddenly started failing during video playback on my Huawei device (Mate 70 Pro +, Harmony 4.3). Videos initially play normally, but after approximately 1 minute and 10–20 seconds, playback stops and YouTube displays the error: “There was a problem while playing (Playback ID: UHq8DwJXRjtZwQ1R)”.

When the issue first occurred, I was using microG Services v0.3.16.252432 together with the corresponding Huawei (-hw) microG Companion. This setup had previously been working normally.

I initially suspected that the problem might be related to microG, so I updated both microG Services and microG Companion to v0.3.17.252432 (Huawei builds). However, the same playback error still occurred.

I then updated the YouTube app to the latest available version to rule out an issue with the YouTube version, but this also made no difference. Videos still stop after approximately the same amount of playback time and show the playback error.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open the YouTube app.
  2. Play any video.
  3. Continue playback for approximately 1 minute and 10–20 seconds.
  4. Playback stops and the message “There was a problem while playing (Playback ID: …)” is displayed.

Expected behavior Videos should continue playing normally without stopping or displaying a playback error.

microG microG Core version: 0.3.17.252432-hw microG Self-Check results: All ticked except "microG Services Framework installed"

Additional context The issue originally started while I was using microG Services v0.3.16.252432-hw and the corresponding Huawei microG Companion. I then updated both microG Services and microG Companion to v0.3.17.252432-hw, but the issue remained.

I also updated the YouTube app to the latest available version, but this did not resolve the problem.

The only unchecked item in microG Self-Check is "microG Services Framework installed". All other relevant microG Services, Companion, signature spoofing and permission checks are ticked.
