Evaluation proposal: bounded typed MCP tool exposure for large catalogs

Author: JDeunCreated Oct 2, 2026Updated Oct 2, 2026

Langflow already has substantial MCP and agent infrastructure, so I am not proposing a replacement runtime or a core dependency.

I maintain SchemaRouter, a typed capability/field retrieval layer that can reduce a large discovered tool catalog to a query-dependent shortlist before the agent sees it.

A deliberately narrow Langflow evaluation would be:

  1. connect a large MCP catalog using the existing Langflow MCP surface;
  2. insert SchemaRouter only as a pre-execution capability-selection component;
  3. expose the resulting bounded tool/schema set to the existing Langflow agent path;
  4. leave Langflow authoritative for flow state, MCP lifecycle, agent execution, policies, and UI;
  5. compare against full-catalog exposure using required-tool recall, exposed schema/context size, task success, latency, and unsupported-query behavior.

This could be an external/custom component or example rather than anything in Langflow core. The goal is to test the integration boundary first, not ask Langflow to adopt SchemaRouter.

Would this kind of reproducible component/example be useful, and if so is there a preferred current extension point for it? If the existing Langflow/CUGA path already solves the same large-catalog problem, a pointer to that would also help avoid duplicate work.
