Progress isn't synchronised when sending files

So I just sent a file to myself (regular tab > incognito tab). It's a sufficiently big file so it would take many minutes for me to upload regularly. And indeed, the download went much faster than my net speed (as expected). However, when the upload showed as "completed", the downloader window was only at ~20%. How can this be?
