Constant 10-15% CPU usage on client, even with microphone and webcam disabled while alone in the room

What happened?

I often sit alone in my jitsi room while waiting for colleagues to join me, and I noticed that it eats more than 10% undivided CPU even when nothing is happening and while I am muted and without a webcam enabled.

Steps to reproduce

In gnome-system-monitor (or similar apps), set the processes list to not divide the CPU usage percentages by the number of CPU cores (otherwise the numbers would be completely biased on multi-core CPUs):

Then look at the CPU usage being over 10% at all times, even though nothing is happening and the microphone+webcam are disabled, as I can see on my laptop:

I can see a similar pattern on my desktop workstation too:

I am testing mainly using a ThinkPad T480 laptop with Intel Core i5-8350U × 8 CPU, but it happens on any machine.
