The bug

I use tags and XMP sidecar files, but the sidecar files are not updated on all cases.

  1. When I add or remove a tag from an single image via the info panel, the XMP sidecar files update properly.

  2. When I add a tag to some images via bulk, i.e., by selecting the images and using the three-dot menu, the XMP sidecar files update properly as well.

  3. When I delete a tag from multiple images via the tags explorer, the tags are deleted from the images, but the XMP sidecar files are NOT updated. The sidecar files are only updated if I make a change according to 1) or 2) afterwards. Then, the tag is also removed from the sidecar files.

This will lead to reappearing tags if I run the synchronize sidecar metadata job because the deleted tags are imported again from the sidecar files.

Reproduction steps

  1. Delete a tag via the tag explorer
  2. Check XML sidecar files of the affected images, they are not updated.
  3. Add a tag to one of these images
  4. Check XML sidecar files, the sidecar file of this image is updated, the new tag is added and the tag of step 1 is deleted.
  5. Trigger "sync" on the Sidecar metadata job
  6. The deleted tag will reappear after job is finished.
