Admin console does not allow escaped characters in settings values

The Etherpad admin console does not allow escaped characters in the values of settings.

Specifically, if I enter this in the web GUI to set DEFAULT_PAD_TEXT:

"Welcome\n\n\test\n"

What gets saved to the settings.json file is:

"Welcome\n\ntest\n"

And what gets output in the default pad text is:

"Welcome\n\n\test\n"

It appears that the web GUIs are helpfully escaping the "" in "\n" for me before saving it, producing "\n" in the variable in the settings.json file, which ends up with a literal "\n" in the pad text. The web GUIs also strip out newlines in the input.

This can be fixed by editing the settings.json file directly, but the hosting service I am using doesn't permit this.
