Taxonomy Filter shows "No taxonomies found" for Loop Grid even with default WordPress Posts

  • Elementor and Elementor Pro are updated to the latest stable versions.
  • WordPress is updated.
  • Cache has been cleared.
  • The issue is reproducible in Elementor's Taxonomy Filter widget.

Description

The Taxonomy Filter widget does not detect any taxonomies from a connected Loop Grid.

In the Taxonomy Filter widget:

Selected Loop Grid: Loop Grid 1

Taxonomy: "No taxonomies found"

The Loop Grid is correctly detected by the Taxonomy Filter, but no taxonomies are available.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a WordPress Loop Grid using the default WordPress Posts.
  2. Make sure the Loop Grid query source is Posts.
  3. Add the Taxonomy Filter widget.
  4. Select the Loop Grid under "Selected loop grid".
  5. Open the "Taxonomy" dropdown.
  6. The dropdown shows "No taxonomies found".

Expected behavior

The Taxonomy dropdown should detect the taxonomies associated with the selected Loop Grid, such as:

  • Categories
  • Tags

Actual behavior

The Taxonomy dropdown only shows:

"No taxonomies found"

Additional test

The same issue also occurs with a custom post type:

Post Type: Recipes

Taxonomy: recipes_categories

The custom taxonomy is registered correctly and attached to the Recipes post type, but Elementor still shows "No taxonomies found".

Environment

WordPress: Version 7.1.1

Elementor: Version 4.2.4

Elementor Pro: Version 4.2.3

PHP: 8.3.33 (Supports 64bit values)

Theme: Hello Elementor

Steps to reproduce

  1. Go to WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Create or edit a page with Elementor.
  3. Add a Loop Grid widget using the default WordPress Posts source.
  4. Add the Taxonomy Filter widget to the same page.
  5. In the Taxonomy Filter widget, select the created Loop Grid under "Selected loop grid".
  6. Open the "Taxonomy" dropdown.
  7. The dropdown shows "No taxonomies found".
  8. The same issue also occurs when using a custom post type (Recipes) with a custom taxonomy (recipes_categories).
  9. The custom taxonomy is correctly registered and attached to the Recipes post type, and "Show in REST API" is enabled.
  10. Elementor and Elementor Pro are updated to the latest versions.

Expected behavior

After selecting a Loop Grid that uses the default WordPress Posts source, the Taxonomy dropdown in the Taxonomy Filter widget should automatically detect and display the available taxonomies, such as Categories and Tags.

The same behavior should work for custom post types and their registered taxonomies. For example, when the Loop Grid displays Recipes posts, the custom "recipes_categories" taxonomy should be available in the Taxonomy dropdown.

Instead, the Taxonomy dropdown shows "No taxonomies found".
