Typescript 6/7 support?

Summary

Any idea how to get this working well with Typescript 6 in preparation of Typescript 7? I keep running into issues trying to set the rootDir, always ends up causing an error somewhere. I assume there is a better solution but I'm not familiar enough with the build system and webpack to figure it out. Most of the issues seem to be related to the shared folder that is used for both the frontend and backend.
