Is blendergis a scam site?

When to download BlenderGis and the first hit on google was https://blendergis.com/ The download being in a zip file on a fileservice called terabox was what alerted me to this potentially being a scam.

is https://blendergis.com/ posing as the real project?

Yes, https://blendergis.com/ is a fake website posing as the real project. The legitimate, official, and open-source project BlenderGIS does not have its own dedicated .com website.

Why the .com Site is Dangerous Potential Malware: Fake addon websites are frequently set up by bad actors to distribute .zip files containing hidden malware, information stealers, or malicious Python scripts that can compromise your computer when installed inside Blender.

Unauthorized Monetization: They often attempt to charge users for an open-source tool that is completely free, or they run ad-heavy pages to generate fraudulent revenue off the developer's hard work.

Outdated/Broken Code: Even if they don't serve malware, these sites host outdated copies of the addon that will not work with modern versions of Blender.

What You Should Do Do not download anything from blendergis.com.

If you have already downloaded and installed a .zip file from that domain, uninstall the addon immediately from your Blender preferences, delete the file, and run a full antivirus/malware scan on your system.

Only download the addon by going to the official GitHub link above, clicking on Releases, and downloading the official source zip file.
