Steps To Reproduce

  • Configure Vaultwarden 1.36.0 behind a reverse proxy (Coolify in this case)
  • Configure OIDC SSO with Authentik
  • Use official Bitwarden iOS app (latest version)
  • Enable push notifications in Vaultwarden (PUSH_ENABLED=true)
  • Log in and wait until session expires or force re-authentication
  • Attempt login again via SSO

Expected Result

SSO login should succeed regardless of push notification handling.

Actual Result

Login fails during token exchange:

[vaultwarden::api::push][ERROR] Unexpected push token received from bitwarden server: error decoding response body
POST /identity/connect/token => 400 Bad Request

On iOS client, this appears as a generic login failure.

Additional Context

  • OIDC authentication succeeds every time
  • Issue only occurs during full re-authentication, not normal unlock
  • Reinstalling iOS app temporarily avoids issue but does not fix root cause
  • Problem is reproducible and deterministic
  • Disabling push fully resolves issue
