issue with token usage and misleading behavior
Cline Surface
VSCode Extension
Cline Version
3.83.0
Beta version
- I am using a beta version of Cline
What happened?
What happened: Cline performed a multi-file find-and-replace task across 24 HTML templates. The session hit context limit, then called attempt_completion claiming "0 remaining occurrences" without ever running a verification scan. In reality 5 occurrences remained in 2 files (scheduler/history.html and manager/search.html). The user had to start a new session and spend additional tokens to find and fix them.
Expected behavior: Cline should run a verification scan (e.g. Select-String / search_files) before declaring a search-and-replace task complete.
Steps to reproduce:
- Assign Cline a task to replace a string across many files
- Let the session approach context limit while partially complete
- Observe Cline calls attempt_completion with a false "done" claim, no verification run
- Start new session — remaining occurrences are found, proving the claim was false
Additional context: The /reportbug tool itself also has a bug: the "open issue" link redirected to localhost:8090 (the user's local app) instead of github.com/cline/cline/issues, showing a 500 error.
