Linux Snap 2026.8.0: tray icon briefly appears and then disappears; 2026.7.0 and .deb work

Steps To Reproduce

1. Install Bitwarden Desktop 2026.8.0 from Snap (revision 169).
2. Run under GNOME/X11 with AppIndicator support enabled.
3. Start Bitwarden, for example with: snap run bitwarden --autostart
4. The tray icon appears briefly and then disappears, while the Bitwarden process continues running.
5. Revert the Snap to revision 167 / Bitwarden 2026.7.0.
6. Start Bitwarden again. The tray icon remains visible. (maybe 3 dot icon)
7. Upgrade back to revision 169 / Bitwarden 2026.8.0. The problem immediately returns.
8. Install the official Bitwarden 2026.8.0 .deb instead. The tray icon appears, remains visible, and shows the correct Bitwarden icon.

Expected Result

The Bitwarden tray icon should remain visible while Bitwarden is running in the background.

Actual Result

With the Snap package version 2026.8.0, revision 169, the tray icon appears briefly during startup and then disappears, although Bitwarden itself continues running.

The behavior is reproducible by switching between Snap revisions:

Snap revision 167 / Bitwarden 2026.7.0: tray icon remains visible. Snap revision 169 / Bitwarden 2026.8.0: tray icon disappears. Official .deb / Bitwarden 2026.8.0: tray icon remains visible and displays the correct Bitwarden icon.

This strongly suggests a regression affecting the Snap build/package of 2026.8.0 rather than the GNOME/AppIndicator configuration.

Environment:

Linux GNOME X11 (XDG_SESSION_TYPE=x11) AppIndicator extension enabled Snap interfaces desktop, desktop-legacy, unity7, wayland, and x11 are connected.

While testing the Snap, the icon that briefly appeared before disappearing was sometimes a generic three-dot icon rather than the normal Bitwarden icon.

The issue is reproducible on two separate systems.

Possibly related: #17320 (“App-indicator does not show”), although that issue describes a different environment/startup scenario.
