New message notification received, but not message is shown

Steps to reproduce

1. Receive a new message notification.
2. Check the chat app, the message is not visible.
3. Close the app (swiping up, and closing it).
4. Open the app again
5. The previously missing message is now visible.

Current behavior

When I receive a new message, I get the notification, but the message itself is not displayed in the chat. If I restart the app, the message appears correctly.
