Aseprite hangs on `Export` as `gif` due to messed up tag-repeats

Describe the bug I have a fairly long animated sprite, which has a few tags that are only used for organizations sake. During the process I noticed that the 'preview' window is showing the animation as I'd expect it - it runs each frame once, no repeating. But when I press 'ENTER' to loop through the frames on the timeline, certain tags were 'getting stuck' and repeating, sometimes infinitely.

On export, it seems the exact same thing is happening, where exporting with 'all frames' as a .gif file completely hangs Aseprite, as it slowly eats more and more memory, due to infinitely repeating tags. Exporting with the Play Subtags & Repetitions off causes the export to happen instantly, and Aseprite to not hang.

I'm unsure how I got the tags to be this bugged, since I only really gave them a color and name, and did not adjust the animation direction or repeats at all (to my knowledge). I did at some point create a tag to test whether looping a section of the animation would work, and then I removed it again

To Reproduce Even after restarting, the issue presents with the saved file, so I presume it will be reproducible on different systems too. aseprite_bugged_gif_export.zip

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open the Aseprite File
  2. Export with the following settings:

  1. The export should hang, freezing Aseprite while it slowly takes more memory as the gif it's exporting becomes infinitely longer.

If you instead press 'Enter' in the Aseprite file, you'll see that at frame 39 (end of tag 'frog_croak') it loops back to frame 35 (start of tag frog_entry).

Expected behavior Export happens as normal.

Aseprite & System (please complete the following information):

  • Aseprite: Aseprite v1.3.18.6
  • System: Windows 10
  • Extensions: A few. None of the ones used in the file have used or adjusted tags.

Additional context Perhaps I'm missing something, but I can see no reason for the animation to loop back in the tags. I have renamed tags, added frames, moved the start and end of the tags multiple times.

I also ran into a small issue with tags today, perhaps that has somehow messed things up. When you drag a tag to extend it across multiple frames, and you end your hold & drag on TOP of another tag/the top of the tag you're dropping, the 'input released' event will be used on 'opening' that hovered tag instead, rather than dropping the tag edge.
