ALVR causing steam to permanently crash on startup
I recently decided to move from Virtual Desktop to ALVR due to way better performence on ALVR, however I have been dealing with nonstop issues with the occasional exception where everything works perfectly
(System/device info at the bottom)
I've noticed I can run ALVR once and run SteamVR and play games normally but if SteamVR restarts a few times for any reasosn whatsoever it gives the following error:
Unhandled exception: C0000005 Stack trace (most recent call last): #5 Object "", at 00007FFCCC717374, in BaseThreadInitThunk #4 Object "", at 00007FFC866BEEBD, in set_device_openvr_props #3 Object "", at 00007FFC8626A560, in set_device_openvr_props #2 Object "", at 00007FFC8626C6CA, in set_device_openvr_props #1 Object "", at 00007FFC8678F9E0, in set_device_openvr_props #0 Object "", at 00007FFC8679ECD6, in set_device_openvr_props
I can't for the life of me figure out how to stop this from happening permanently, I've tried:
Restarting my pc Restarting Steam (both before and after closing anything steam related in task manager) Restarting ALVR Changing to nightly build as well as earlier build of ALVR both on pc and my headset Reinstalling SteamVR Reinstalling ALVR (only temporarily fixes the issue) Reinstalling Steam (only temporarily fixes the issue) Deleting ALVR (permanently fixes the issue but can't do that obviously)
I'm not sure at this point what I still can try other than reinstalling my OS (which I don't want to do in the slightest)
Onto the next issue which is less common but still common and happens almost every time the previously mentioned error show up
When the error below shows up sometimes it happens without the error mentioned above however it prevents any image from being sent to my headset while still letting audio pass through (video encoder issue?)
ALVR panicked at alvr\server_core\web_server.rs:125:14: called 'Result::unwrap()' on an 'Err' value: OS { code: 10048, Kind: AddrInUse, message: "Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is permitted." }
This can be temporarily solved with reinstalling ALVR
I'm really out of ideas and I'm getting increasingly frustrated as I've tried looking up anything on the issues and found nothing other than an old GitHub issue on the first error which says to turn off any additional VR related software which hasn't helped me at all
Before anyone says that my hardware is not technically supported, I know, however it still can run vr pretty smoothly at decent quality depending on the game and I've never had any issues using Virtual Desktop other than latency related issues
Here's the hardware/software info: Device: 1st gen LCD Steam deck OS: Windows 10 64 Bit, Version 22H2 Build 19045.7184 GPU/CPU: AMD Custom APU 0405 (1GB Dedicated VRAM, 7.4GB shared VRAM) RAM: 16GB LPDDR5 Storage: Corsair MP600 MINI 2TB (not even close to full)
